About the Nutrients series
The concept behind the construction of this series is to provide a credible resource that cuts through the noise of information overload, so you can quickly find a condition and see which nutrients will provide benefit.
The layout is designed to provide concise navigation, so you can see what the latest research says, how much of the nutrient you need to take, which foods contain the nutrient and how long until you can expect results.
Rather than include all the attributes for that nutrient, the series provides a highly focused overview of the specific clinical presentation or signs and symptoms that you or your patients may be experiencing and presents it in an up-to-date, scientifically researched executive summary for just that one application.
It is designed for user experience and ease of navigation. We appreciate that not everyone gets as excited as we do about reading scientific publications, so this is a quick way to get to the facts and find exactly what you are after in an instance.
All information is referenced, so you can easily locate the source of the information and dig deeper to perform some additional reading should you choose to.
We are all about non-biased and authentic presentation of information and the nutrient series maintains this essence at its core.
Nutrient quality ratings have been developed so you can easily see how this nutrient holds up for the specific condition and compare this to other potential options.

We have also included a section on where to find this nutrient in the diet, as although supplementation may sometimes be recommended, nothing competes with a quality diet.
How the Nutrients series posts are created
Here’s an example of how the Treating Depression with Magnesium post was developed:
- The following search terms were included into the Amed, Medline, Cinahl databases from inception to current (November 2018): Magnesium AND depression AND placebo controlled OR clinical trial OR meta analysis OR systematic review AND human
- 67 results were retrieved
- All results were screened for suitability (i.e. which of these publications actually explore the intervention of magnesium in depression)
- Additional searches were performed in Pubmed and ResearchGate for magnesium and depression.
- 25 publications were considered suitable to inform a perspective on the effectiveness of magnesium and depression. These were all read.
- 18 references were included into the final blog post. Read Treating Depression with Magnesium: How Strong Is The Evidence?.
